Buyer's Guide To Ford A/C CompressorsWhat Does a Ford A/C Compressor Do?
The compressor serves as the power unit for the air conditioning in your Ford, Lincoln, or Mercury vehicle. It puts the gaseous refrigerant in the A/C system under pressure before the refrigerant passed on to the condenser, where it's transformed into a liquid.
Where Is A Ford A/C Compressor Located?
Typically, it's found in front of your engine. That placement is due to the fact that the compressor is powered by the crankshaft by an accessory belt and pulley.
How Do You Spot A Failing A/C Compressor?
While your A/C compressor should work without fail for between 10 and 12 years, it's not unheard of for one to fail before that. Perhaps a clutch has failed, or the belt driving it has worn or slipped. Signs of trouble include:
- Your cabin air temperature is higher than normal
- The compressor runs continuously
- Your A/C unit leaks refrigerant
